Neighbor to Neighbor

The Neighbor to Neighbor Program is a one-of-a-kind program designed to spur community engagement.  There are three parts to the Neighbor to Neighbor Program

  • Local Buyer Appreciation .::. Encourages local shopping.
  • Neighbor of the Month Award .::. Give that special neighbor the recognition they deserve.
  • Community Wide Block Parties .::. Fosters neighborly engagement

Local Buyer Appreciation:

A different spin on an old principle, Local Buyer Appreciation helps foster the shop local mentality rural Nebraska must embrace if we are to survive with any semblance of quality of place.  When you support your local business you support your neighbor, it doesn’t matter who owns it!  You and your neighbor are directly impacted by the money spent in town.  Money spent at a local business increases the bottom line of the business, which creates jobs, which brings families, which helps the school system etc., etc.

To thank those who already shop and encourage those who don’t regularly shop local, the Neligh Chamber of Commerce is implementing the Neighbor to Neighbor Program: Local Buyer Appreciation.  Once every calendar quarter and every month of the fourth quarter, a random business, on a random day, will give away Chamber Bucks to a random customer ranging from $50 - $250.

Neighbor of the Month Award:

Do you have a neighbor that would do anything for you?  Can you never say thank you enough?  “It takes a village.”  It’s one of the most fitting sayings for small town living.  Neligh is no exception to that rule.  Neighbors have a huge impact on the way your children develop.  Please take a moment to recognize that neighbor.  Once a month Neligh Economic Development will sort through the applicants and recognize the Neighbor of the Month.  This outstanding Nelighite will receive recognition in the Neligh News and Leader and receive a $20 in Big Bucks. Click here to find out how to nominate someone.  We are using the term "neighbor" loosely, it doesn't have to be the person right next door.

Community Wide Block Parties:

Once a year the Neligh Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce will host the Community Wide Block Parties.  Neighborhoods interested in hosting their own block party can contact the Economic Development Director @ (402) 887-4447.  Once signed up they will receive a $5 Thriftway Gift Card and will be the contact person for their neighborhood, responsible for organizing neighbors and dishes.  During the party, Economic Development, Chamber, and City officials will be visiting registered block parties with gifts donated by local businesses and the potential to win Chamber Gift Cards. The Antelope County Sheriff's Department, the Neligh Police Force and the Neligh Fire Department will be visiting the block parties with gifts as well. Volunteers from Target will also be in attendance, doing face painting and giving gifts. Look for more information towards the end of the summer.
