Neligh Mill State Historic Site
Experience one of Nebraska’s only fully intact, water-powered mills.
Step back in time at one of Nebraska’s most unique and well-preserved historic landmarks.
The Neligh Mill is the only mill in Nebraska with its original 19th-century equipment still intact, offering a rare, authentic look at how early industry powered the growth of rural communities. Located along the Elkhorn River, the mill remains a centerpiece of Neligh’s historic Old Mill District.
Built in 1873 by town founder John D. Neligh, the mill operated for nearly a century, producing flour that was shipped across the region and beyond.
Today, the site is preserved as a Nebraska State Historical Site, where visitors can explore the mill, see original machinery, and experience firsthand how water power once fueled daily life and local economies.
