Emergency Medical Technician – EMT 

Job Summary:  Responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or off-line medical control.  Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the ER Physician.

· In the field the EMT-Basic responsibilities include: triage, CPR, oxygen therapy, shock prevention, splinting, spinal immobilization and vehicular extrication.

· Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in scope of practice.

· Adheres to Ambulance policies addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.

 

· Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.  Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.

 

· Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.

 

· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

 

· Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, care and observations.

 

· Transports patient and supplies safely.

 

· Maintains ambulance supplies and equipment.

 

· Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

 

Regulatory Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Current Basic Life Support-  BLS Certification.

Current EMT- Basic Certification. 

Current state driver’s license and excellent driving record.

Medical terminology.
